Interactive Whiteboard Technology: Do this Lesson Yourself

This lesson can be performed in your classroom using an interactive whiteboard or other classroom projection technology.

In this case, the software used to perform the simulation is Yenka Electrochemistry.

If you wish, you may start this activity by downloading the pre-configured Yenka Activity File (Yenka software is required in order to use the file). Upon opening, the Yenka Activity will appear similar to the following (the position of menus and objects may be different):

Classroom Suggestions:

Use the Yenka simulation to demonstrate how an electrochemical cell is constructed and experiment with different electrodes and electrolytes in an attempt to produce the maximum amount of voltage.

Have students construct an appropriate table that tracks electrodes and electrolytes used in their experimentation. Then encourage them to change the electrodes and electrolytes in an organized manner so that they can efficiently determine and record the results of their experimentation.
